With Trion having the week off, Chattooga took center stage on Friday night, as they played host to the Coosa Eagles in an important region game. Coming off two straight wins, the Indians hoped to keep the momentum rolling as the Eagles came to the Little Big Horn for the region matchup. Fate would not smile on the Indians though, as they would fall to the Eagles by a final score of 21-15.
Chattooga started fast and had a 12-0 lead in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns on the ground. PATs proved to be a problem for the Indians, as the first attempt went wide and the second attempt never got off the ground due to a bad snap. It looked like Chattooga might be setting Coosa up for a rout, when it all began to unravel for the Indians.
After a Coosa punt in the second quarter, the Indians had bad field position and were eventually forced to punt the ball back to Coosa. The punt was off the side of the kicker's foot and did not make it out of Chattooga's end of the field, setting up Coosa with great field position at the Indian 32 yard line. Coosa would break through the center of the Indian defense and score a rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 12-7 in the favor of the Indians. The score would remain the same at the half, and the Indians would go to the locker room looking for a way to put the game away.
It was not meant to be for the Indians. Coosa would score a touchdown to take the lead in the third quarter 14-12 over the Indians. Chattooga would briefly regain the lead by kicking a field goal, taking the score to 15-14 in favor of the Indians. Coosa would answer with a touchdown in the fourth quarter that would prove to be the difference. With the score 21-15 in favor of the Eagles, Chattooga had one last chance with about a minute remaining, but they could not find the endzone and Coosa escaped with the win.
Chattooga will travel to Pepperell next week to take on the Dragons in a critical region game. With a playoff appearance potentially riding on the outcome of next week's game, the Indians will have to find winning form again in Lindale. Trion will return to action next week against familiar foe Gordon Lee.
